"Round about Reed Hollow"--2012

Our first snowfall of the winter, January 19th, during the night, but it was the nice fluffy kind and today, the 20th, the sun is shining so brightly, it's just "loverly!"  We've had a wonderful winter so far with temps well over the average and no snow.  After last year with our record-breaking snowfall for the year, this has been a delight for us all!

A preying mantis egg case

In last year's "Round about Reed Hollow"--2011, I got a great picture of a preying mantis.  Here is just one of the many egg cases that I see all over the hills around the store.

We've lots of robins around already...they are eating the Staghorn Sumac berries shown here.

I've seen the robins since the beginning of January, so I don't think they're a real sign of spring which is still weeks off, but it's nice to imagine.  I'm glad we planted the sumac which offers food for them when there are no worms or insects to be had.

How many robins can you find eating the sumac seed heads?

For the answer, you'll just have to come in and ask me!  But there's more than the one in the center top of the picture!
